This article starts from a questioning on the articulations and tensions existing within the triptych Evaluation – Participation – Emancipation in the field of social work. Through the definition of a conceptual framework on evaluation and the presentation of the results of recent research interventions carried out with young people supported by social action, this contribution highlights the methodological and accompanying issues at stake in participatory evaluation processes. The reflection carried out allows not only to underline the observable effects of the participation of the publics in these processes (for themselves and for the social action), but also to rework the initial triptych in an interactive way and to consider participatory evaluation as a powerful lever favouring the emancipation of the social work publics and the intervention of the professionals.
