This text analyses the transformation of contemporary metropolises in light of the importance taken on by the development of a world certified by quality standards. This certified world, supposing that a normalizing liberalism has been adopted as a regulating ideal by those running cities, is prepared to entertain a certain openness, and it is appropriate to study the cosmological background, anthropological presuppositions and political and moral context of that openness. We will approach this question by analyzing the evolution of urban atmospheres in seaside and historical cities located in the Mediterranean
