In 2014, several articles on the Web described « mysterious » cell towers intercepting phone calls in the United States. Soon after, the public began speculating about the purpose of such interceptions and who was conducting them (Farman, 2016). With the appearance of this technology emerged a multitude of dubious and suspicious imaginaries. Today, those « mysterious » and « dummy » towers are known to be IMSI[1] catchers (also known as Stingray in North America).
