Introduction: In sports, including football, the concerns are performance, injuries and financial costs. Motor imagery, an inexpensive and non-binding approach, has become essential and is gradually being integrated into physiotherapy. PETTLEP (Physical, Environmental, Task, Timing, Learning, Emotion and Perspective) is the most efficient of the different imagery pro-tocols evaluated. Our goal is to determine whether PETTLEP alone improves performance in football compared to a control group. Method: For this literature review, we searched for articles us-ing the keywords « PETTLEP » and « football » in ten databases (Pubmed, Embase, Cinhal, Cochrane, Kinedoc, Lissa, Pedro, Web of Sciences, SPORTDiscus, and PsycInfo). After verifying our selection criteria, we selected five randomized controlled trials. Results: Three trials evaluate the improvement of the penalties and two others evaluate the improvement of the dribbles. All studies describe a superior, non-significant, improvement in PETTLEP groups compared to the control group. One trial describes a significant improvement in the PETTLEP group and a deterioration in the control group. Discussion: The trial with a significant performance improvement respects the PETTLEP protocol and stands out from the others by its superior quality, despite a high dropout rate. The other studies do not follow the specific protocol and do not provide sufficient details of the interventions. Conclusion: We cannot claim that PETTLEP alone improves football performance. A combination of PETTLEP and physical practice appears to be the best intervention.
