Résumé

We examine the effect of TripAdvisor ratings on the accounting performance of restaurants. We use data for a sample of 1,030 Parisian restaurants over the period January 2009 to December 2017 and find that a higher TripAdvisor rating is associated with a higher profitability. We also document a positive relationship between both variables accounting for rating dispersion and reviewer or rating quality.
