This paper presents the design and analysis of an innovative homopolar linear motor (HLM) tailored for advanced transportation systems such as magnetic levitation (Maglev) train. The core focus of this study is the application of Finite Element Method (FEM) for the motor's design, emphasizing inductance asymmetry and forces analysis. The thermal aspects and the control of the motor are also briefly discussed. The proposed homopolar linear motor offers a significant advantage by achieving a high power factor without relying on permanent magnets materials, thus reducing costs and resource use. The motor's design integrates a passive track made of concrete and iron segment making it a viable alternative to traditional Maglev systems. Three different FEM models, 2D, Quasi 3D, and 3D Models are discussed. The FEM-based models were compared to measurements on a scaled vehicle prototype, demonstrating the practical applicability and performance of the proposed design.
