The exhibition features the corpus of bibliographical sources cited by the graphic designer Jan Tschichold in his work Die neue Typographie (The New Typography, 1928). This founding text of modernist graphic design has been at the centre of debates, while the sources cited by its author have often been overlooked.
The exhibition is organised in the framework of two conference cycles: Un déséquilibre précis. Une idée que l’on a de la Suisse organized by the Centre culturel suisse. On Tour and École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, and Practice+Critique, organized by Université Paris 8 and École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs.
It is housed in the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal (BnF), a major centre for the history of books and bibliophilia. The library also made available typographic materials from the collection of type designer Ladislas Mandel, selected by Philippe Millot.
