The exhibition features the corpus of bibliographical sources cited by the graphic designer Jan Tschichold in his work Die neue Typographie (The New Typography, 1928). This founding text of modernist graphic design has been at the centre of debates, while the sources cited by its author have often been overlooked. In Ghent, the exhibition is complemented with a selection of Belgian magazines, such as La Cité (1919–1935) and Het Overzicht (1921–1925) from the collection of the Kunstenbibliotheek, as well as the results of a four-day workshop held by BINGO (Belgian Institute for Graphic Design) with graphic design students from KASK & Conservatorium. Students interpreted the historical material to make it their own as a contemporary and local response to the exhibition.
