This paper optimizes and compares two configurations of permanent magnets of such suspension integrated in a small-scale test vehicle. The first one is the Halbach array, classically used for the high magnetic flux density it generates, whereas the second one is the simpler alternance of magnetic poles. Through the optimization of the lift-to-drag ratio and the mass of the suspension, it is shown that both configurations can have similar performances. The Halbach array has a lower overall mass but a higher permanent magnet volume and therefore cost. A portion of the additional weight of the alternate arrangement can be gained by reducing its back-iron thickness and removing materials at the center of the magnetic poles. 000015262 540__ $$acorrect 000015262 592__ $$aHEI-VS 000015262 592__ $$bInstitut Systèmes industriels 000015262 592__ $$cIngénierie et Architecture 000015262 6531_ $$9eng$$ahigh-speed maglev 000015262 6531_ $$9eng$$aelectrodynamic suspension (EDS) 000015262 6531_ $$9eng$$apermanent magnets 000015262 655_7 $$apublished full paper 000015262 700__ $$aBeauloye, Louis$$uUCLouvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium 000015262 700__ $$aMelly, David$$uSchool of Engineering, HES-SO Valais-Wallis, HEI, HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland 000015262 700__ $$aChevailler, Samuel$$uSchool of Engineering, HES-SO Valais-Wallis, HEI, HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland 000015262 700__ $$aDehez, Bruno$$uUCLouvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium 000015262 711__ $$aMaglev 2024$$cMalmö, Sweden$$d2024-09-18$$m2024-09-22 000015262 773__ $$tProceedings of Maglev 2024, 18-22 September 2024, Malmö, Sweden$$j2024$$k7976-A-2466$$qTo be published 000015262 85641 $$zConference's website$$uhttps://mkon.nu/maglev_2024 000015262 8564_ $$uhttps://arodes.hes-so.ch/record/15262/files/Melly_2024_comparison_permanent_magnet_configurations_electrodynamic_suspension_integrated_small-scale_test_vehicle.pdf$$yAuthor's version$$934c84de4-3bcb-4d8a-9598-6f0de6b068f5$$s869471 000015262 906__ $$aNONE 000015262 909CO $$ooai:hesso.tind.io:15262$$pGLOBAL_SET 000015262 950__ $$aaucun 000015262 980__ $$aconference 000015262 981__ $$aconference
