Résumé

Any artifact produced in 2020 or 2021 bears the traces of the Covid-19 pandemic, and of the rips and stoppages of normality, the painful separations and interruptions that this crisis of health and social reproduction has inflicted on the forms of everyday life and sociability. It bears these traces whether it wants to or not, if only negatively or symptomatically. So too with this text, and the project of which it is a part. Nor is the pandemic the only crisis that is shaping our experience, our moods and dispositions, our efforts to think critically about pasts, presents and possible futures. In a lucid new analysis of the present moment, feminist and eco-socialist philosopher Nancy Fraser finds this context of multiple or compounding crisis to be nothing less than “epochal” – an allusion to the end of the Holocene.
